RE: Services Available in 620
Many people on campus are aware of the services offered in room 620 through Project Impact such as groups and individual counseling. Impact works with numerous community agencies to offer services to our students and their families in an as-needed as well as on-going basis. Some students are mandated to receive services as part of conditions for staying at Marshall. The main focus of this program is to help students deal with the problems impeding their progress in school. Another main category of services offered in 620 is Community Service coordinated by Steve Zimmer. Steve is a nationally recognized experimental education expert and has been teaching for 12 years. His numerous collaborations have allowed our students to enhance learning experiences through service. Steve is also the Crisis Coordinator for the school and works with students in crisis. He coordinates around issues of suicide, hospitalizations, overdose, violence, and death. Steve teaches C track with Multilingual Teaching Academy. In an effort to cut down on truancies, classroom interruptions, and out of class time for students, a brief note when students are summonsed from your class such as: "doesn't come to this class, "taking a test today, "absent 3 weeks" is helpful. All students returning to class have a signed summons with a time for leaving the office. This is a brief overview of how we are organized and the services we provide. It is important to us that students are successful in school. Many times, it seems the students most in need of services are also the students that are most in need of classroom time. We realize this is a Catch 22 but sometimes the student needs to stabilize emotionally before they can do better or even concentrate in school. We have listed the main categories of service along with the names of the Community Organizations that partner with Marshall to offer services.
If you have a student, whom you feel has a problem, just drop one of us a note or use the referral form and we will talk with the student. You can give us the details or simply say, "I'm concerned about..." We will keep it confidential who referred them to 620 and at the same time, we are required to keep the particulars of our interactions with the student confidential. We would also like to welcome all new teachers and invite anyone to drop by t to talk about any concerns you might have. CSSC Staff | ![]() |
